John Garland
Copywriter
John Garland, Welcome to the SVL Team!
SVL would like to welcome our copywriter, John Garland. John graduated from the University of Iowa with his bachelors degree and went on to obtain his MFA from Augsburg University in 2015. John also spent a semester in Rome, Italy and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. “I had a mythology professor who changed how I looked at those stories,” he went on to say, “Learning Roman myth in Italy made it that much more immediate and fun.”
He comes to SVL with an extensive freelance writing background, as well as seven years of editing at Growler Magazine and a number of other digital and print publications.
Abundant Hobbies
In the summer, John enjoys playing lots of disc golf, going hiking and camping, and gardening in his backyard. In the winter, you can find him by a fireplace with a cribbage board or watching French films on Netflix. Year-round, he’s never without a good book. John also closely follows the Minnesota Twins in MLB and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. As a goal, he aspires to appear on Jeopardy as a contestant.
Culture Appreciation
John enjoys experiencing foods, drinks, and the life of other cultures. If he could go anywhere in the world, John would choose a bustling city with lots of history and great street food. “Tokyo, Istanbul, Singapore, Marrakesh, and Bilbao all come to mind,” he noted. He frequently cooks at home and his specialties are Southeast Asian and Mexican.
